London is full of wonderful places to visit and things to see but there are several attractions that every visitor must see.
- Big Ben: the bell in the clock at the north end of Westminster Palace. Big Ben is the largest chiming clock with four faces in the world. It is the largest free standing clock tower in the world.
- The Tower of London: is on the north bank of the River Thames and was founded in 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest. William the Conqueror built the White Tower, from which the castle takes its name. It has been used as a prison since 1100. The tower is a series of buildings set within two concentric circles of walls and a moat. The Tower of London is very important to the history of England.
- The London Bridge: spans the River Thames, connecting the City of London to Southwark in central London. Until 1729 it was the only bridge over the downstream of the Thames. The present London Bridge, which opened in 1793, is on the same site as all of the other London Bridges that have spanned the years since 1729.
- The Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace: is possibly London’s number one tourist attraction. The palace itself was built in 1702 as the London home of the Duke of Buckingham. Buckingham Palace’s state rooms are open from late July to September. The Queen’s Guard and the Queen’s Life Guard are the two groups of infantry and cavalry that guard the royal residences in London.
- The London Eye, or the Millennium wheel: is an enormous Ferris wheel that stands 443 feet or 135 metres tall. It is the number one paid tourist attraction in the UK and the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe. It can be found at the western end of Jubilee Gardens, in the borough of Lambeth, on the South bank of the River Thames.
- Princess Diana’s Memorial: was officially opened in July 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II. It was designed to express Princess Diana’s love of children. It is in the southwest corner of Hyde Park.
Any visitor to London could be kept busy 24/7 visiting exciting places. The ones mentioned above are just the “tip of the iceberg” of things to do and see when visiting historic London.

Tunisia, in northeastern Africa is a beautiful country to visit: a country of spices and flowers, ancient history, friendliness, wonderful hotels, restaurants and first class airports.
The climate of Tunisia is superb and the coastline is lovely. Tunisia’s neighbors are Libya and Algeria. The Mediterranean is Tunisia’s northern, and most of its eastern border. Tunisia has been the visiting place and home of many civilizations over its long history. Today’s Tunisian culture is a colorful and fascinating mélange of the cultures of those that have gone before: the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Turks, Spanish and French.
Tunisia’s long and colorful history is preserved in the many hundreds of historical sites and museums that dot the country. The enormous National Museum of Bardo (near Tunis) was a 13th century palace and has been expanded over time so that it’s now a an amazing example of 17th and 18th century Arab architecture and interior décor. It boasts vaulted ceilings, galleries and cupolas. It also houses the finest collection of mosaics in the world! The Carthage Museum is famed for its excellent collection of Roman and Punic artifacts, including items that would have been used in everyday life. The extensive display of jewelry must not be missed. There is also an extremely distinctive display of Punic masks made of colored glass paste.
The Dar Ben Abdallah Museum of Traditional Arts and Customs, in Tunis, is housed on the bottom floor of the 18th century palace of the same name. It is the center of the old city of Tunis, the medina. This museum offers traditional Tunisian arts and exhibits traditional customs of the city of Tunis in a traditional setting. Keep in mind that most museums in Tunisia are closed on Mondays. Tunisia is known for its festivals. You may plan your holiday around a Tunisian festival during most times of the year. Every small village sets aside time for at least one festival. Visitors are welcome. If you are fascinated by the Sahara desert, the Saharian Festival is for you. You will find it in Douz, the “gateway to the Sahara.” The Saharian Festival occurs in the second week of November. All classical music fans would love to see the International Music Festival at the El Jem Coliseum from mid-July through mid-August. It features world renowned arts and orchestras. All performances take place on soft Tunisian evenings under the starts in a Roman Coliseum!
The most important component of Tunisian family cuisine is its breads! Country breads, found in smaller villages, are usually unleavened and baked in domed, clay ovens called tabounas. Bread is a staple at every Tunisian meal and everyplace in Tunisia has its own special breads. The meat eaten most often in Tunisian homes is lamb. Seafood is abundant, due to Tunisia’s long Mediterranean coastline and Tunisia’s olive oil and produce is delicious. Tunisians use all sorts of herbs and spices for cooking, including cumin, coriander, parsley, dried peppers, and garlic. They prefer their food hot and spicy, but in deference to tourists’ tastes, usually serve their favorite spicy condiment, harissa, as a side dish.
Tunisia is a fascinating place and an excellent holiday destination.

Whilst Lanzarote has traditionally been linked with package holidays a growing number of independent travellers are now visiting the island. Lured by cheaper flights, great weather and some seriously spectacular scenery, as Lanzarote is home to an abundance of wonderful natural attractions many of which were forged during the massive volcanic eruptions that rocked the island during the 1730´s.
Tourists have been flocking to the fourth largest of the Canary Islands ever since the package holiday industry first took off in the 1970´s. And Lanzarote continues to attract millions of visitors today. Many of whom like nothing more than basking in the sun, which shines all year round here. However there’s so much to see that most tourists manage to leave their Lanzarote villas and apartments for at least a days sightseeing.
Lanzarote offers visitors plenty to do and see as well as year round sunshine – which has helped to establish it as the third most popular of the Canary Islands after Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Boasting a whole host of attractions such as the natural wonders of the Timanfaya Volcano Park, the green lagoon at El Golfo and the Valley of 1000 Palms. As well as the creations of a local artist called Cesar Manrique, which include the Mirador del Rio, Cactus Garden and the Jameos del Agua. Along with close to a hundred great beaches and picturesque pueblos such as Yaiza and Haria.
Activities, attractions or a mix of both, whichever you choose make sure to include:
Parque Tropical; Parque Tropical is located in the north of the island at the base of Mount Corona, an extinct volcano and the highest point of the island, close to the Famara Cliffs. The views here are simply spectacular. The park has an outstanding variety of birds totalling close to 300 species, including Ostriches, Flamingos, Cranes and Hornbills to name but a few. or perhaps The Timanfaya Volcano Park. This gives visitors the opportunity to view natures work up close. With skilled drivers steering coaches through the weird and wonderful terrain seven days a week. Thankfully all of the volcanoes here are now dormant. However the whole region is still a real seismic hot spot – with temperatures below the earth’s surface in the centre of the Timanfaya Volcano Park still reaching up to 400 degrees Celsius.
If you don’t fancy any of those perhaps The Cesar Manrique Foundation; It is difficult to put into words the feelings that walking around Cesar Manriques former home brings, but it is easy to get a sense of the simplicity and blend of nature and architecture that were the foundations of Manriques works. The way that he transformed the volcanic bubbles into rooms exemplifies this and it is surprising to see a tree as the central focal point of Manriques symbiosis with nature. If you pay a visit to fire mountain around fifteen minutes further to the north lies Lanzarote´s Green Lagoon, which is situated just outside a small village called El Golfo. The Green Lagoon has starred in a number of major motion pictures over the years – most famously One Million Years BC. As this was the spot where Raquel Welch emerged from the sea in her animal skin bikini.
If your heading for the north of the island take the time to explore the majestic Valley of 1000 Palms. An oasis of Canarian palms created by villagers in Haria. Who have been planting a palm to mark the birth of every baby locally for centuries.

Greece is one of the top 20 tourist spots in the world, due to the more than 15 million people who go on holiday to Greece a year. The Greek Islands are the most popular tourist destinations, but many people forget that mainland Greece has quite a bit to offer too. Athens, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Crete and Rhodes are all major destinations. There are still many rewarding areas in the country free of large-scale tourism, for those who are looking for a quieter time away from the bustle. Greece offers many and varied experiences, landscapes, and activities. It is famous for the reliable sunny weather, the nightlife, historical sites, famous beaches and, of course, its natural beauty.
One reason that makes Greece an ideal holiday destination is its climate. Greece has very long summers and short winters. Between the months of April and November, you will find Greece to be hot and dry, but not so much that you can not enjoy the outdoors. Greece does see rain during this season, but it comes and goes so quickly that you will enjoy the chance to cool down. From the middle of July to the middle of August, you might find Greece a little unbearable since this is the typically the warmest time of the year. During the months of May and June, as well as, September and October you will find Greece at its finest. It is not too hot and not too humid. These are the best months to visit.
The peak of the holiday season is from July until August, the vast majority of those taking a holiday arrive in Greece between April and October. Most of the country’s tourist infrastructure goes into hibernation outside of these months, especially on the islands. The bulk of scheduled international flights are handled in Athens and Thessaloniki. Several charter and planned low-budget flights arrive everyday from several of Europe’s cities to many of the islands and smaller cities on the mainland during tourist season.
Expect your hotel accommodations to be simple in Greece. You will be staying in a diminutive air-conditioned room with a balcony. The room will be clean and acceptable. In the larger cities, the hotels will be more luxurious, but you likely will not feel that you got what you paid for. You can also find luxury hotel accommodations on the islands that are populated with tourists, but again the value just is not there. Even the simple hotels have an online presence and you can likely arrange your reservations over the internet or email. You can also send a fax. You can also use a hotel booking service or travel agent.
Greece offers many unique and quality local products, although it is not known for its shopping. Local handicrafts, local wines and spirits, leather goods, lace, jewelry, metalwork, pottery, knitwear, and rugs are all special purchases. Referred to locally as Tarverna or Estiatorio, restaurants there are widespread because dining out is so common. English-speaking people on holiday in Greece need not worry about language barriers too much, as English is widely spoken in the shops and in restaurants. You can find excellent Greek restaurants in highly visited tourist areas, particularly in areas that are popular with Greek tourists as well.

Brighton is a popular tourist destination on England’s south coast. The town lies about 50 miles to the south of London and is known for its nightclubs and restaurants and relaxing atmosphere. There are a few key landmarks and places that must be visited when touring Brighton.
The Royal Pavilion – When you are in Brighton there are a few places you absolutely have to visit. The Royal Pavilion is one of those places. It is directly in the center of Brighton and was once a farmhouse. As the years went on, the Pavilion was completely redone and it became the place where the Prince Regent would stay when he was in Brighton. You can visit the place where King George the 4th rested his head but you will have to pay an entrance fee. One of the things you will definitely have to do is meander on over to the Brighton Museum, which is a stones throw from the Pavilion at the end of its gardens. It does not cost anything to visit and you can learn a lot about the local history.
The Palace Pier – The Palace Pier is one of only three historical piers that have survived in Brighton, originally having been open in 1899. It was originally built to house a variety of amusements as well as dock a pleasure craft, today it contains amusement arcades, fine restaurants, a nightclub, tourist shops and a fun fair. The pier is a right place for a walk and to explore, the view of the seafront from this area is breathtaking. Many tourists also love to take in its kitsch attractions and enjoy spending an evening there.
The Lanes – For the bigger chain shops, Churchill Square is the place to go. However, if you are looking for exclusive and exceptional stores than are locally owned, the Lanes will be your shopping mecca. The complex tangling of streets could take a few visits to get oriented with, but the jewelry, antique, and clothes shopping you will find is worth the effort. The Lanes sits in the oldest part of the town, which is also home to town hall and the visitor information center. Do not worry about getting lost on your way to one of these locations – they are easily found in the town center.
The Beach – Because Brighton is a coastal town it also features a magnificent beach. The beach sees plenty of free film showings and live music events, you will find a number of street performers there as well. It is a relaxing place for a walk and although the beach itself is pebbly as opposed to smooth you will find plenty of entertainment in the many beach front nightclubs and bars. The beach is a perfect end cap to your Brighton vacation, and is part of just the many sights you will see, enjoy and remember for a lifetime.

Sun, sea, sand, cheap flights and culture. What more could the independant traveller want from a holiday apart from some great accommodation to make for that perfect holiday. Lanzaorte is one of the Canary Islands that have become a favourite with the growing community of independant tourist.
More independent travellers means more demand for self catering accommodation. And this has resulted in the growth of the private rental sector. With thousands of Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments now available. And despite the fact that there are now plenty of attractive hotels and fincas in the countryside most visitors from the UK still prefer to book something in one of the larger resorts. With villas in Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen in great demand especially during the peak holiday periods.
A quick web search will reveal a number of Lanzarote Villas And Apartments to find the ideal holiday accommodation suitable for singles or even large family groups.
Wherever tourists decide to book their accommodation though there re still loads of hidden spots on Lanzarote that lie well off the main tourist trail. As the island boasts loads of natural beauty spots along with plenty of cultural attractions developed by César Manrique, a famous local artist. Not to mention historic little towns such as the former island capital of Teguise.
Lanzarote is famous for its volcanoes – and rightly so. During the 1730´s the island was rocked by eruptions that lasted for over six years. So today much of the island’s interior resembles the surface of another planet – characterised by a very dry and arid terrain. So who would have thought that a place with as little rainfall as Lanzarote could be home to its very own wood?
But visitors to the north will find El Bosque perched on the Famara massif range of cliffs. Providing a verdant antidote to the volcanic region and a popular picnic spot for locals. As very few tourists are aware of this spot, which doesn’t feature on many maps and isn’t signposted. Making it very tricky to find.

Blackpool has three piers, the first to be completed was North Pier in 1863 and became a centre of attraction for elite visitors. When Central Pier was completed 5 years later it boasted an open air dance floor and a theatre. South Pier was not completed until 1893 as the town expanded south along what is now known as the Golden Mile. Blackpool was the only town in United Kingdom to have three piers.
Since opening in 1898 Blackpool Opera House has been rebuilt twice in 1910 and 1939 and currently has a capacity of 2920. In 1955 the first Royal Variety Performance to be help outside London was staged at Blackpool Opera House.
Blackpool’s innovative use of electricity in the 1870’s was to have a dramatic effect on the town. In 1879 Blackpool was the first place in the world to have electric street lighting, which lined the promenade. The lighting and pageants propelled Blackpool’s status as the North’s Number one holiday resort for both the working class and the elite. This electric lighting was the start of what is now known as the Blackpool Illuminations.
Blackpool Corporation is responsible for the Electric Tramway which runs along Blackpool promenade. The trams have been running since 1885 and currently start at Fleetwood to the North and running south to Star Gate. Blackpool Corporation took over in 1892 taking over from the Blackpool Electric Tramway Company. When the tramway opened in 1885 the trams ran from Cocker Street to Dean Street.
There are many photographs of Blackpool in the 1940’s and 1950’s where you will see crowds of people on the beach, as visitors relaxed and enjoyed a week long holiday in Blackpool. Times have changed, and Blackpool has had to be dynamic to accommodate that change. The majority of visitors are day trippers or those who come for a quick weekend break to enjoy the nightlife and attractions Blackpool has to offer. With estimated visitors at around 10 million per year, Blackpool is one of the most popular destination in the UK.
In 1894 the three million visitors to Blackpool could enjoy 2 new attractions, the Grand Theatre and the world famous Blackpool Tower. The population of Blackpool has swelled to over thirty five thousand which was needed to cater for the millions of visitors.

Whether it’s a scenic beach front, great shopping, the arts, or just lots of fun, Brighton has it. With its mix of sites and attractions, there’s always things to do in Brighton, whatever time of year you visit. Being a seaside town, Brighton’s beach front is, naturally, its main attraction, and it has all kinds of activity (such as sunbathing, surfing, sailing, volleyball and skateboarding) going on. If it’s shopping you want, the area of Brighton called The Lanes offers a mix of cool and unique shops set amongst a maze of quaint, timeless streets. Brighton is famous for its pier, a standard feature of any British seaside town. In fact, there are two piers, but one is closed for repairs, having been pummeled for centuries by ocean storms. The remaining pier is known as the Brighton Pier and is crowded with arcades, restaurants, cafes, a roller-coaster and dodgems, as any good English pier should be. During the summer it plays host to a marvelous display of fireworks that are a real treat for seasonal visitors. The Royal Pavilion is, arguably, the jewels of Brighton’s crown. The royal connections it has date back to when it was built for the Prince Regent, who was later the King Of England (King George IV). It was continually frequented by the ruling Royal Family right up to Victorian times. No expense was spared on it, and it shows. It mixes exotic architectural styles from Asia, which gives it a distinct look and feel. It’s certainly worth seeing for yourself whilst you’re in Brighton. Brighton hosts many walking tours, as does nearby Hove. If you’d like to expend a little energy and see Brighton by foot, you will be fascinated by the history of the towns and nearby areas. Brighton’s walking tours are guided and you will learn a lot about local history and landmarks from the guides. They can also provide you with information about other places to visit and things to see during your visit. If a more leisurely trip around Brighton is more appealing to you, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are bus tours running throughout the day in the summer months. These buses will, of course, make getting from A to B very convenient, but they do more than just that. They follow routes that take in the best that Brighton has to offer, and they operate on a hop-on, hop-off basis, so you can buy yourself a daily ticket and explore the town’s lesser known parts as well as the major tourist attractions, monuments and landmarks. If it’s your first time in Brighton, they’re an ideal way to get your bearings before setting off on foot.

Ever since package holidays were first introduced in the 1970´s Lanzarote has been welcoming tourists from across Europe. As this small Canary Islands offers a winning combination of wonderful weather and great beaches. But there is much more to Lanzarote than just sunshine and sand alone. As local planning laws have restrained over development – ensuring that much of the island is still very unspoilt.
Much like other islands in the Canaries there is a pronounced north-south divide on Lanzarote. With tourist development and the main resorts confined to the south – which enjoys the best of the weather. Whilst the north remains the domain of the locals, with less development and a cooler climate.
Over the last ten years package holiday makers have been augmented by independent travellers. As a result of the growth of budget airlines and the internet. Which has enabled tourists to book their own travel and accommodation online. As a result this trend has in turn increased demand for apartments and villas in Lanzarote. Which are now booked in preference to hotels and all inclusive holiday deals. With many British tourists booking holiday villas in Playa Blanca – the islands fastest growing resort – direct with the owners.Accommodation details on Holiday villas in Puerto del Carmen is available here
Outside the large resorts in the south there is an unspoilt island with a strong agricultural past. A well as loads of off the beaten track attractions. All of which are best explored by booking a car and heading out on tour.
Head for the pretty village of Haria to start connecting with the real Lanzarote. This pueblo has been described by the eminent Canarian author Alberto Vazquez as the prettiest village on the island if not the world. Which is probably a bit of an exaggeration – but not that wide of the truth. As Haria is a real green oasis on an island that is otherwise largely devoid of flora and fauna. Thanks to very low rainfall and a dry and arid climate. In Haria villagers started to plant palm trees for every new born baby centuries ago. And today their valley is aptly known as the Valley of 1000 Palms, with countless Canarian palms creating a striking sight.

Around the world there are lots of wonderful places to enjoy a holiday. But not many of these destinations cannot come close to Lanzarote for cultural attractions. As this small Canary Island located off the African coast is the birthplace of a famous artist called César Manrique. Who created unique cultural attractions and who exerted an enormous influence on the islands development.
Renowned as a destination for sun, sea and sand Lanzarote has a rich cultural background as well, and with an excellent choice of Lanzarote holiday villas finding accommodation on the island will not be a chore
Manrique´s imprint is everywhere on the island of his birth. Tourists leaving the airport encounter his massive bronze wind toy ´Homage to Pepin Ramirez´ as they depart from the arrivals hall and head for their Lanzarote villas and apartments. And on route they soon discover that there are no high rise buildings or advertising hoardings blotting the landscape either – as Manrique successfully campaigned to get these outlawed during the 1970´s.
Born in Arrecife, the islands capital, in 1919, Manrique fell in love with the island from a tender age. Thanks to the fact that his parents owned a holiday home in the beautiful northern beach resort of Famara, where they would all spend long summers together. With the young Manrique exploring rock pools and splashing in the tide, where he would delight in seeing the reflection of the Famara cliffs that flanked the bay.
The young Manrique went on to study art in Madrid, against his parent’s wishes, before becoming involved with the Spanish surrealist movement in the 1950´s. A brave move in Franco´s Spain at the time. Before heading off to New York under the patronage of the Rockefellers to study and exhibit there. Where he rubbed shoulders with contemporaries such as Andy Warhol.
Around this time though package tourism was just stating to take off in Spain. Bulldozers and cement mixers were moving ominously across the Costas and the Canaries. Slowly submerging swathes of land in concrete. Alarmed at these developments Manrique retuned to Lanzarote, determined to fight for it´s future.
Manrique was appalled at the potential threat to the islands culture when he returned from his travels but at the same time, Manrique also accepted that his fellow islanders could not continue to live off just fishing and agriculture alone. So Manrique also started work on the creation of a series of seven cultural attractions that would become the mainstay of the island tourist industry to this day. Encompassing brilliant works of architecture such as the Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Rio. Whilst also campaigning tirelessly for a retrained and sensible approach to construction.

The recent Icelandic ash cloud hasn’t deterred many travellers from jetting off to other volcanic locations this year. With islands such as Lanzarote in the Canaries still proving very popular. Despite the fact that it was hit by massive eruptions in the 1730’s which transformed much of the interior from fertile farmland into a volcanic wasteland.
Films and TV series shot on location on Lanzarote and around the other Canary Islands also include:Take a Hard Ride, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth and the classic Journey to the centre of the earth as well as many others
You may think that the fact that the island has volcanic origins may actually discourage some visitors and property investers but nothing could be farther from the truth. The barren terrain also provides numerous interesting activities and attractions for tourist and combine that with the excellent year round climate, countless sun kissed beaches its not surprising that visitors return again and again. Many retired couples have even invested in their own second homes which they let out during the buoyant summer season, but then use over the winter months as the climate is much warmer than the rest of Europe.
There is an excellent choice of accommodation on the island ranging from self catering apartments for the budget conscious, through to hotels and private villas. The biggest question on most peoples lips however is where to stay.
Lanzarote is home to three main tourist resorts. During the colder months of the year Playa Blanca villas tend to get booked up more. Reflecting the fact that their location at the southern foot of the island guarantees more sunshine. However visitors in search of more nightlife should plump instead for villas in Puerto del Carmen. As the islands oldest resort is home to an abundance of restaurants, bars and clubs.
Things To Do
Lanzarote offers visitors plenty to do and see as well as year round sunshine – which has helped to establish it as the third most popular of the Canary Islands after Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Is your family thinking about having a short break in the United Kingdom? While nearly all visitors having a vacation in the British Isles choose to stay in famous places like London, other tourists prefer to take a vacation in Scotland. In the article below I describe the Isle of Harris and why it makes such a fantastic vacation destination.
While London might have some of the most impressive museums and galleries in the United Kingdom and some of the most well known visitor attractions the city can not appeal to all toursists.
Some tourists much prefer vacations which are far less hectic and other people would rather have more action packed vacations such as sporting vacations. Strangely the Isle of Harris, in the Western Isles (also know as the Outer Hebrides) of Scotland, is superb for both types of person.
Like many others sun bathing on the beach for most of my vacation isn’t my idea of the perfect vacation. Don’t get me wrong, at times I really do enjoy relaxing on a sunny beach, and the Isle of Harris certainly is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Britain, however, I also like to spend time visiting other places while on vacation. I really like to spend time just soaking in the atmosphere of the place, I really like to indulge in the local foods and sampling the culture. To be honest I simply enjoy visiting new places each year and I try very hard attempting to find somewhere or something 100% unique. This is why, most probably, I so thoroughly enjoy visits to the Hebrides island known as the Isle of Harris and why I frequently choose to stay in a Harris self catering house.
One of the main reasons people travel to the Isle of Harris is to enjoy the islands culture and landscape. The culture of the Isle of Harris has, over time been immensely influenced by the Scottish, English, Celtic and Norse races. Nowadays in general most people speak in the Gaelic language and although some talk in English, it is often their second language. The folk of the Isle of Harris are amongst the friendliest in the world and the hospitality is well known across the globe. The Isle of Harris folk are justifiably proud of the breathtaking beauty of the island and go to great lengths to keep the island clean and tidy so it is vitally important to minimise your own mess.
Keep in mind that discarded litter doesn’t only make the countryside appear unsightly it is also highly dangerous to native wildlife.
A further point to learn is that the roads on the Isle of Harris are drastically different to those experienced on the Scottish mainland stretches of single track road are common and you will need to know how to use passing places to allow traffic to pass from ahead and behind. All you really need to do is pull over to the left of the road. If the vehicle wishing to get past you is very big and the passing place is to the right hand side of the road you may move over into it to allow the vehicle pass more easily but take great care not to end up off the road too much.
I hope that my above article interests you sufficiently in taking a short break or vacation on the Isle of Harris. Many folk the Scotland’s Western Isles decide to stay in two destinations. There are a small number of other islands to visit including Lewis, North Uist and South Uist. Why not think about staying in a Harris self catering house for a short while and then stay in a room in a hotel on North Uist or a South Uist hotel for the rest of your vacation?

The small Canary Island of Lanzarote offers excellent value for anyone seeking a villa break on a budget. As it offers a wide range of privately owned rental accommodation which is often available at prices that are much cheaper than on other Spanish holiday islands. Thanks to a year round holiday season and a well developed tourist sector.
As one of the seven Canary Islands Lanzarote basks in delightful semi tropical weather, with sunshine predominating all year round. This is due to the fact that the islands all lie close to the coast of Africa and the Tropic of Cancer. Producing very little in the way of precipitation too – which makes the island look quite barren in appearance, with little in the way of trees and plants.
This rather arid scenery is made all the more unusual by the fact that much of the islands interior is covered in lava – the legacy of major eruptions in the 18th century. Creating a terrain that looks like something out of a science fiction film.
The island isn’t all about strange terrain however as away from the interior it resembles most other holiday hotspots. The coastline is sprinkled with around 100 beautiful beaches and tourists can choose from three modern resorts. Which are home to the bulk of the best Lanzarote villas and other prime holiday accommodation for example self catering apartments.
The biggest resort on Lanzarote is called Puerto del Carmen and is home to some great beaches – just a short drive from Arrecife airport. These fine stretches of sand are the main reason why it is so popular with tourists – along with the fact that visitors can also enjoy great nightlife here and plenty of good quality bars and restaurants.
For example, most Puerto del Carmen villas are in demand as result – with prices starting at about the €500 mark for properties with private pools.
After Puerto del Carmen Playa Blanca is the islands second most popular resort. Having expanded rapidly since it was first developed in the early 1990´s. And today it is proving especially popular with tourists sleeking good value self catering accommodation thanks to the fact that apartments and villas here offer excellent value for money. An excellent range of Playa Blanca villas are available at this website.
Lanzarote is a great sunshine destination all year round. But its best to time your holiday here carefully, as some months such as February and March can be more unreliable than others.
Other popular resorts include Costa Teguise which is very much the most northerly resort throughout the island and is generally merely a relaxing fifteen minute taxi or coach ride from the main airport, and not forgetting the islands most recent high class resort of Puerto Calero which could be described as unashamedly targetted towards the exclusive end of the holiday sector which has an superb selection of boutiques. and naturally as would likely be expected from a resort of this prominence an outstanding 400 plus berth marina if you’re privileged enough to be able to travel here on ones personal private motor or sailing boat.
Must see attractions on the island include for example The Cactus Garden in Guatiza is a celebration of the plant worlds spiniest species. Orchestrated to perfection once again by the ubiquitous Cesar Manrique.
Enjoy your visit here.

Holidays are one of the best stress relievers around, as they give you the chance to get away from the daily routine of work and household chores. And when you choose a destination that has lots of sunshine and a laidback pace it is that much easier to switch off quickly.
Within Europe, there are only one or two places that offer reliably good weather all year round with the main hotspots the Canary Islands. This is undeniably due to their location at the southern most point of the whole Eurozone, off the coast of north Africa. There are seven islands in total in the archipelago, with Lanzarote the most eastern and also the one with the lowest precipitation annually. As a tourist destination, it already has a well-developed infrastructure, due to the fact that it has been welcoming visitors for over forty years.
In terms of places to stay, there are three main resorts and a host of smaller rural settings, with a wide choice of accommodation style and price range. For those who like self-catering, Lanzarote apartments are amongst the most cost effective to select from.
Whilst those who favour more space and privacy will find that Lanzarote holiday villas are the answer. All have their own heated swimming pools, comfortably furnished interiors with all mod cons and plenty of entertainment facilities as well.
A majority villas in Lanzarote are also visited by the property owners at certain periods of the year and this is one of the main reasons that a such a high percentage are maintained in tip top condition and equipped with many of the little holiday items a majority of families would normally have to take with them.
The resort of Puerto del Carmen has numerous good restaurants, many of which are located close to the atmospheric old town area, with views of the harbor. Several of the best can be found just on the outskirts of the town, only a short cab ride from most of the accommodation.
There are several really good beaches within the town, all of which are easy to access from the newly renovated seafront promenade that stretches along the six kilometers of coastline. With wider pavements and much reduced traffic, it forms a pleasant backdrop for pedestrians.
At night, there are many bars and clubs that make good destinations for an after dinner drink, with most open until the early hours. For those who are more active during the day, there is a huge array of activities to select from, Lanzarote golf holidays for instance are very popular which is perfectly understandable due to the great weather.
Such is the unique charm of the island, due to its unspoiled landscapes and tranquil environment, visitors often feel the urge to return for more holidays in Lanzarote. Which many do year after year.
